And the replanting begins....

I had just replanted before the tree came down; most of those seeds were not productive or were eaten by the wee tiny birds and beasties (we have a plethora of chipmunks here!) so... we try again. At least all the limbs, etc. are gone.

And the replanting begins...

OK... so I was discouraged, a little under the weather and it got cold, so... the garden was on hold for a moment. I have been out in my little garden this morning; hoeing and weeding and assessing the damage from the fallen tree, the cold weather and the wee tiny beasties that are eating my seeds. I do have several eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, a few clumps of lavender, spinach, butter crunch lettuce, garlic and a half dozen sugar snap peas. My bush beans are having a hard time- only one survivor as far as I can tell, but... I have plenty of seeds...

Anyway- the rows are hoed and it is looking nice again.

Speaking of hoes (which are basically knives on a stick as far as I can tell) do I sharpen with my little hand mower blade sharpening tool or with a whet rock / oilstone like I do kitchen knives?

Be back later with pictures...

My row of garlic....

Here is my garlic story....
I went to buy garlic sets for my garden- and the sets were outrageously high priced- at least 10x the amount you spend for a head of garlic... so I went to the produce section in WalMart and picked up a 79 cent head of garlic and every single clove has sprouted!
The pictures aren't great- we are still picking up pine limbs, but I am impressed with my garlic shoots.

Not as bad as it first appears...

No damage to the tomatoes; however the beans, peas, peppers, and lettuces are all the
victim of natural selection.... not sure about the rest.
